Paramount Pictures’ new Star Trek movie will debut in 2019, as the studio is planning to reboot the franchise with the same cast and crew that made the original in the form of Peter Weller, Michael Dorn, Simon Pegg, Brent Spiner, and John Cho.
The studio is looking to launch a new franchise in 2019 and is reportedly in talks to acquire a franchise for the 21st century.
“The Star Trek franchise has endured many changes over the years and the film is no exception,” said Michael De Luca, the president of Paramount Pictures.
“We have a long history of bringing audiences together on these films and we are excited to be returning to the iconic Star Trek universe in 2019.”
While there have been some big name additions, many of the original cast are still with the studio, including Weller and Dorn.
“I was honored to be given the opportunity to join Paramount Pictures and I can’t wait to explore the world of Star Trek in 2019,” said Weller.
“It’s an exciting time for the franchise and a tremendous opportunity to expand the franchise’s fan base.”
The movie will be directed by Roberto Orci and produced by Doug Jung and Brad Fuller.
It will be released in theaters on May 17, 2019.
“Star Trek Beyond” is set to be released on May 25, 2019, in theaters.
